Happy 130th to the Brooklyn Bridge!

When it opened on May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Designed and built by German-born John A. Roebling and his son, Washington A. Roebling, the bridge connected New York and Brooklyn. The remarkable design used Roebling’s patented system of steel wire cable construction. Its graceful limestone and granite towers, pictured here, took 5 years to build.

So my mom asked me what I wanted for graduation (which is in TWO days by the way asjkfinadfdhadf), I, being the responsible adult that I am, told her a car. I’ll need one. This isn’t a car to look cute in or drive me around campus, I need it; especially if I get this fellowship in Alabama. (I’m in North Carolina, by the way). But of course, she looked at me like I was crazy. So I just thought of an alternate gift: Amazon/Barnes and Noble gift cards. I want more books. I should have more time to read them. Being a book lover and an aspiring author, it’s necessary to read. And I always imagined that when I got older, I would have my own little library with all these awesome books. And seeing all these cool shelves on Tumblr makes me want a really cool shelf lol. So yeah. We’ll see what I get. (Probably just money; which isn’t a bad thing). Let me know of any suggestions for books I should get!

Officially announcing my BEAST of a poet series! It started on Twitter with Malcolm London, then Jaws on Tumblr. It will be a showcase of great poets/spoken word artists. I will try to be consistent with it so maybe once or twice a week. I’ll probably make a page for it and I’ll come up with some clever tag. Feel free to submit poets! Happy Sunday everyone!

Let’s say it’s 6.15pm and you’re going home (alone of course), after an unusually hard day on the job. You’re really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself..!!

NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE…

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.

A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can perhaps buy precious time to get themselves to a phone and dial 911.
